Generative AI on its own answers questions or drafts text. Agentic AI goes further: an AI agent is given a goal, plans the steps to reach it, calls tools to gather information or take actions, looks at the results and decides what to do next, repeating until the goal is met or it needs help. In network operations, that could mean an agent that investigates an alert by running show commands, checking a monitoring system and a ticket history, and then proposing or applying a fix.
