Writing prompts for a generative AI system: persona, instructions, data classification, output format

Last reviewed September 30, 2026 · Leer en español

A generative AI system responds to the prompt you give it, and the quality of its answer depends heavily on how clear that prompt is. A vague request such as 'fix my OSPF' leaves the model to guess the device type, the problem, what you already tried and what kind of answer you want. A well-structured prompt gets more accurate, more useful output on the first try. The CCNA frames good prompting around a few elements: persona, instructions, context and data, and output format, together with handling data according to its classification.
