RHEL keeps several kernels installed at once, so a bad update never leaves you without a working one. By default, dnf keeps a limited number of kernel versions and removes the oldest when a new one arrives. The default boot entry is normally the newest kernel, but you may need to boot an older one permanently, for example while a driver problem in the new kernel is investigated.
