Package managers are reliable, but updates and installs can still fail. The most common problems are unresolvable dependencies, interrupted operations, repository errors and packages deliberately held back. Reading the error carefully usually tells you which of these you are dealing with, and each has a safe fix and a tempting unsafe one. Linux+ expects you to know both families: dnf and rpm on RHEL-family systems, apt and dpkg on Debian-family systems.
