A service set identifier (SSID) is the network name clients see. A virtual LAN (VLAN) is a logical Layer 2 network on the wired side. In most WLANs, each SSID maps to a VLAN so that wireless users land in the right IP subnet with the right policy. For example, a Corp SSID maps to the staff VLAN, a Guest SSID maps to an isolated guest VLAN, and an IoT SSID maps to a VLAN for devices.
