Voice over Wi-Fi and other real-time applications such as video calls, push-to-talk and some medical telemetry are the most demanding clients on a WLAN. They send small packets continuously and cannot tolerate much delay, jitter or loss. A web page that loads half a second late is fine; a voice call that loses half a second of audio is not. That is why voice-grade designs have stricter targets than data-only designs.
