When something goes wrong in IT operations, two related but different processes handle it. Incident management restores normal service as quickly as possible, even with a temporary workaround. Problem management finds and removes the underlying cause so the same incidents do not keep happening. The CISA exam regularly tests the difference, and a common finding is an organization that is very good at restarting things and very poor at stopping them from breaking again.
