Storage Spaces Direct (S2D) builds highly available storage from the local drives inside each cluster node, with no shared SAN or JBOD enclosure. The nodes pool their drives over the network, usually with RDMA (remote direct memory access) network adapters for low latency, and present Cluster Shared Volumes (CSVs) that every node can use. It is a Datacenter edition feature.
