Azure Backup protects data by taking backups on a schedule and storing them in a vault, a storage entity managed by Azure that holds recovery points and backup policies. You never manage the underlying storage accounts yourself. Azure has two kinds of vault, and each supports a different set of workloads. Picking the right vault for a data source is a classic exam question, because you cannot, for example, back up an Azure virtual machine (VM) into a Backup vault, or managed disks as standalone items into a Recovery Services vault.
