Azure Virtual Machines give you full control of an operating system in the cloud, which also means you are responsible for patching, configuring and securing it. Creating one involves a set of choices on the Create a virtual machine page: subscription and resource group, name, region and availability options, security type (Standard or Trusted Launch), image, size, administrator account (password or SSH key), inbound ports, disks, networking and management settings. Each choice affects cost, performance or resilience, and several cannot be changed later without redeploying.
