Every image in a registry has two kinds of names. A tag is a human-friendly, mutable label such as orders-api:1.4 or orders-api:latest. A digest is a SHA-256 hash of the image manifest, written like orders-api@sha256:..., and it is immutable: the same digest always refers to exactly the same bytes. A tag is a pointer that can be moved to a new image; a digest can never change.
