Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) delivers a user's desktop from a virtual machine running in a data center instead of from the operating system on the computer in front of them. The user connects from a thin client, laptop, tablet or even a phone, and sees a full Windows or Linux desktop with their applications and files. Keyboard, mouse and screen updates travel over the network, while the actual processing and data stay on central servers.
