Display problems are easy to notice and often easy to fix if you work methodically. The key is to separate the display device from the video source: is the monitor or projector at fault, or the computer, cable or settings feeding it? Swapping in a known-good monitor or cable, or connecting the display to a different computer, quickly tells you which side has the problem. No image is the classic call. Check the obvious first: is the monitor on and plugged in, and is its power light on? Is the video cable firmly connected at both ends? Is the monitor set to the correct input source, such as HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) or DisplayPort? If a dedicated graphics card is installed, the cable must connect to the card, not the motherboard's port. On laptops, try the function key that switches between the built-in screen and an external display. If the computer beeps and shows nothing, the problem may be the graphics card or memory rather than the monitor.
