Obfuscation means making data hard to understand or recognize, without necessarily using encryption. Security+ groups three techniques under this heading: steganography, tokenization and data masking. Each hides information in a different way and for a different purpose, and exam questions test whether you can pick the right one for a scenario. They matter because encryption is not always the best fit: sometimes you need to use data without exposing it, test with realistic data, or detect hidden communications.
