Anyone who can plug a device into a network jack or join a Wi-Fi network gains a foothold for attacks. Network access control technologies decide who and what may connect, and in what state, before granting access. Security+ focuses on three related tools: IEEE 802.1X for port-based authentication, network access control (NAC) for checking device health and applying policy, and switch port security for limiting which devices can use a port. They work at the edge of the network, where devices first connect.
