LVM (Logical Volume Manager) adds a flexible layer between disks and file systems. Instead of formatting a partition directly, you pool storage from one or more devices and carve volumes out of the pool, which can later be grown, moved or spread across disks. LVM has three layers: physical volumes (PVs) at the bottom, volume groups (VGs) that pool them, and logical volumes (LVs) that you format and mount. This lesson covers the first layer.
