Partitioning divides a disk into independent sections that can each hold a file system, swap space or an LVM physical volume. RHEL supports two partition table schemes. The older MBR (Master Boot Record, shown as 'dos') allows only four primary partitions and disks up to 2 TiB. GPT (GUID Partition Table) allows many partitions (128 by default) and very large disks, stores a backup copy of the table at the end of the disk, and is the norm on modern and UEFI systems. Exam tasks may ask for GPT specifically.
