Sometimes a system will not boot normally: a bad /etc/fstab entry, a broken service or a forgotten password. Rather than reinstalling, you can tell systemd to start a smaller, more basic target for one boot only, by editing the kernel command line in the GRUB 2 boot loader menu. This is a key troubleshooting skill and a likely exam task.
