Python objects can hold data in two places, and the difference matters. An instance variable belongs to one particular object. It is usually created inside __init__ by assigning to self.name, and each object has its own independent copy. A class variable belongs to the class itself. It is created by an assignment directly in the class body, outside any method, and there is only one copy, shared by all instances.
