Software tools let you see what the network is doing, and Network+ expects you to choose the right one for a scenario and interpret basic output. Think of each tool as answering one question: is it reachable, where does the path break, what is my configuration, is the service listening, what is really on the wire, what is connected to this port, and how fast is this path? Practise each in a lab, because many questions show output and ask what it means. Only scan or capture on networks you are authorized to test.
