Running operational commands from configuration mode with `run`

When you are in the middle of configuring something, you often need to check the device's state: is the interface up, did the route appear, what is the neighbor's address? Operational commands like show interfaces or ping are not available directly in configuration mode, because in configuration mode show displays configuration, not status. The run command solves this: it runs any operational mode command without leaving configuration mode.
