Junos never changes the running device the moment you type a configuration command. Instead it keeps two configurations: the active configuration, which the device is actually running, and the candidate configuration, a working copy you edit. Only when you commit does the candidate become the new active configuration. This model is one of the most important Junos ideas and makes changes safer and easier to undo.
