The Junos configuration is a tree. At the top are statements like system, interfaces, protocols, routing-options, firewall and policy-options; each contains more levels, all the way down to individual settings. In configuration mode you can move around this tree much like you move around folders in a file system, which saves typing and helps you focus on one part of the configuration.
