Before Java 25, the call to super(...) or this(...) had to be the very first statement in a constructor. That rule made it awkward to validate or prepare arguments before handing them to the parent constructor; developers resorted to static helper methods or complicated expressions inside the argument list. Flexible constructor bodies, finalized in Java 25, relax the rule: you may now write statements before the explicit constructor call.
