An intrusion prevention system (IPS) inspects traffic for attack patterns, such as exploit attempts against known vulnerabilities, and blocks or logs them. FortiGate's IPS is signature-driven and highly tunable, and the exam expects you to configure it precisely rather than turning everything on.
