Denial-of-service (DoS) attacks try to overwhelm a target with traffic or connection attempts. FortiGate DoS policies defend against this by watching for traffic anomalies and enforcing thresholds very early in packet processing, before the normal firewall policy lookup, so a flood can be dropped before it consumes resources.
