Modulation is how a radio changes a carrier wave to represent bits. Coding adds redundant bits so the receiver can correct errors. Together they determine a link's data rate and how robust it is. The CWNA exam tests the families of spread spectrum and multicarrier techniques, the modulation types and how MCS indexes describe them.
