Every change in Kubernetes goes through the API server: kubectl, controllers, the kubelet and your own applications all send it HTTPS requests. Before a request can create or change an object, it passes through three gates in a fixed order: authentication, authorization and admission control. Knowing the order helps you interpret errors.
