Kubernetes ships with built-in types such as Pods, Services and Deployments, but its API is designed to be extended. A CustomResourceDefinition (CRD) adds a new resource type to the API server. Once a CRD exists, you can create, list, edit and delete objects of that type with kubectl exactly like built-in objects. Those objects are called custom resources.
