Deployments and ReplicaSets: how the Pod template, labels and selectors fit together

A Deployment is the standard way to run a stateless app. It does not manage Pods directly. Instead it creates a ReplicaSet, and the ReplicaSet keeps the requested number of Pod replicas running, creating new ones when Pods die and deleting extras. The Deployment's own job is to manage ReplicaSets over time, which is what makes rolling updates and rollbacks possible.
