Kubernetes runs a cluster DNS server, normally CoreDNS, as Pods in the kube-system namespace behind a Service usually called kube-dns. The kubelet configures every Pod's /etc/resolv.conf to use it. As a result, applications find Services by name instead of by IP, and the names keep working when Pods and even Service IPs change.
