Business continuity planning (BCP) keeps critical business functions running, or restores them quickly, during and after a disruption. Disaster recovery (DR) is the narrower, more technical part focused on restoring IT systems and data. The CISSP exam treats BCP as a business-led effort: senior management must sponsor it, business units must participate, and the first priority in any disaster is the safety of people. Systems and data always come after human life.
