Centralized authentication systems let many services rely on one trusted authority rather than keeping separate account databases. The CISSP exam focuses on three: Kerberos for single sign-on inside an organization, and Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) and Terminal Access Controller Access-Control System Plus (TACACS+) for AAA (authentication, authorization and accounting) on network access and device administration. Each has characteristic strengths and weaknesses that the exam compares directly.
