How an organization communicates during an incident can matter as much as the technical response. Poor communication leads to delays, contradictory messages, legal exposure and lost trust. The incident response plan should define communication in advance: who is told what, when, by whom and through which channels. That way responders can concentrate on the incident rather than debating who to call.
