A project is not truly finished when the system goes live. The post-implementation review (PIR) asks whether the project achieved what it set out to do, whether the system and its controls work as intended, and what the organization can learn for next time. It closes the loop with the business case, the document that justified spending the money in the first place. Without a PIR, management cannot tell whether an investment paid off or whether the same mistakes will be repeated on the next project.
