SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is the long-standing standard for monitoring network devices. It lets a central monitoring system read values such as interface counters, CPU load and temperature, receive alerts when something happens, and, when permitted, change settings. Even as streaming telemetry grows, SNMP remains nearly everywhere, and the CCNA tests its components, message types, ports and versions.
