A router forwards packets by looking up each destination in its routing table. Reading that table fluently is one of the most-tested CCNA skills, because nearly every routing question starts with show ip route output. Each line tells you where a route came from, what destinations it covers, how trustworthy and how good it is, and where to send matching packets. Once you can read one line confidently, most routing questions become a matter of careful reading.
