Live migration moves a running VM from one Hyper-V host to another with no noticeable downtime. Hyper-V copies the VM's memory to the destination while the VM keeps running, repeatedly sends pages that changed, then briefly pauses the VM to transfer the final state and resumes it on the destination. Users typically lose at most a packet or two. It is how you patch or replace hosts without outages.
