Amazon Route 53 is AWS's Domain Name System (DNS) service. It registers domains, hosts public and private hosted zones, and answers DNS queries from a global network, backed by a 100 percent availability service level agreement. What makes it an architecture tool rather than just a phone book is its routing policies, which decide which answer a resolver gets, and its health checks, which remove unhealthy endpoints from those answers. Together they let you steer users between AZs, Regions and even clouds.
