Right-sizing means matching resources to what a workload actually uses. Many instances are launched larger than needed, often copied from an on-premises server specification or chosen in a hurry, and never revisited. Because you pay for provisioned capacity whether or not it is used, right-sizing is often the fastest way to save money. It should come before buying Savings Plans or Reserved Instances, so you do not lock in discounts on waste for one or three years.
