An Auto Scaling group keeps a fleet of EC2 instances between a minimum and maximum size, replaces unhealthy instances, and uses scaling policies to decide when to change the desired capacity. Choosing the right policy lets you meet performance goals without paying for idle instances overnight or scrambling during a spike. The exam describes a traffic pattern, such as steady growth, sudden bursts, a known daily peak or a queue backlog, and asks which policy or combination fits.
