Users far from your AWS Region experience latency simply because of distance and the many internet hops in between, and the public internet adds unpredictable congestion. AWS has two services that bring users onto the AWS global network close to where they are: Amazon CloudFront and AWS Global Accelerator. Both use AWS edge locations, both improve performance for distant users, and both integrate with AWS Shield for distributed denial of service (DDoS) protection, which is why telling them apart is a classic exam item.
