Everything you do in AWS, whether creating a bucket, launching a server or reading a bill, is ultimately an application programming interface (API) call to an AWS service. Each request is authenticated with your credentials, checked against your permissions and usually recorded by AWS CloudTrail. The different ways of using AWS are simply different front ends for those same APIs. The exam asks you to match each front end to the kind of work it suits: exploring, scripting, writing applications or building repeatable infrastructure.
