Wireless networks broadcast through walls, so anyone nearby can try to join or listen. Wireless security protocols provide two things: authentication, which decides who may join, and encryption, which keeps traffic private. The original WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) and the first WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) are broken and should never be used. The A+ exam asks you to pick the strongest option a device supports and to recognize which authentication protocol fits which job.
