Windows includes a set of built-in security features that you will configure and troubleshoot constantly. Microsoft Defender Antivirus provides real-time protection against malware, cloud-delivered protection and scheduled or on-demand scans; you manage it in the Windows Security app, where you can check that definitions are current, run a quick, full or offline scan, and review quarantined items. If a third-party antivirus is installed, Defender typically steps aside. Windows Defender Firewall filters inbound and outbound traffic per network profile (domain, private, public); you can allow apps, open ports and create detailed rules in the Advanced Security console.
