Zero trust is a security model that removes implicit trust based on network location. Being inside the corporate network no longer means a request is trusted; every access request is evaluated on identity, device and context, and access is granted with the least privilege needed, for as short a time as practical. NIST SP 800-207 describes the reference architecture.
