Cloud computing delivers computing resources on demand over a network, paid for by use, from a provider that runs the underlying data centers. Its defining traits are self-service, broad network access, pooled resources shared among many customers (multitenancy), rapid elasticity (scaling up and down quickly) and measured service. For security, the most important question in any cloud scenario is: who is responsible for securing which part? The answer depends on the service model, and misunderstanding it causes many real cloud breaches, such as storage buckets left open to the internet because the customer assumed the provider handled it.
