Posture management finds weaknesses before an attack; workload protection detects attacks as they happen. In Defender for Cloud, cloud workload protection comes as separate paid plans that you enable per subscription on the Environment settings > Defender plans page. Enabling at the subscription level covers existing and future resources of that type. Each plan uses signals suited to its workload.
