Microsoft Entra Privileged Identity Management (PIM) provides just-in-time privileged access. Instead of someone holding Global Administrator or subscription Owner around the clock, they hold it only when they need it, for a limited time, with an audit trail. PIM needs Microsoft Entra ID P2 or Entra ID Governance licensing for the users who benefit from it. It covers three kinds of roles: Microsoft Entra roles, Azure resource roles (Azure RBAC at management group, subscription, resource group or resource scope) and group membership or ownership through PIM for Groups.
