A project manager does not need to configure a router or build a server, but they do need to understand the parts of IT infrastructure well enough to plan the work, ask the right questions, estimate realistically and see how changes ripple across the organization. Many project delays come from infrastructure surprises: hardware that takes weeks to arrive, a firewall change nobody requested, or a storage system that is already full.
